In a major relief to thousands of teachers, the Supreme Court of India has responded positively to an appeal, bringing hope back into the lives of many educators across the state.
✅ Eligible Teachers Allowed to Take Classes
According to the court’s directive, teachers of classes 9–10 and 11–12 who are not marked as “tainted” or “ineligible” will be allowed to conduct classes in schools. The State Government and the School Service Commission (SSC) have been ordered to submit an affidavit by May 31, 2025, confirming that the recruitment process will be completed within the current year (2025).
🗓️ Final Deadline for SSC Recruitment Process
The Supreme Court has set December 31, 2025, as the final deadline for completing recruitment through examinations. If this timeline is not followed, the court warned that the current order may be withdrawn, and alternative steps will be taken.
🚫 Who Remains on the Disqualified List?
Based on a report submitted by the CBI to the Supreme Court, a total of 6,276 candidates have been identified as ineligible or tainted. These candidates will remain barred from teaching positions. The court upheld its previous order against them.
❌ Nature and Numbers of Recruitment Irregularities:
- Candidates recruited outside of the panel: 1,498
- Candidates who jumped ranks unfairly: 926
- Candidates selected despite OMR manipulation: 4,091
- Candidates involved in multiple types of fraud (OMR + forgery, etc.): 239
These disqualified individuals have lost their jobs and have been ordered to return their salaries with interest, amounting to several lakhs of rupees.
📚 Fear of Disruption in the Education System
The West Bengal Board has expressed concerns over a potential collapse in the school education system if the eligible teachers are not allowed to resume duties. Many schools are already facing an acute shortage of teachers, severely affecting students’ academic lives.
