Born in Mumbai, Tendulkar made his Test debut on November 15, 1989, at just 16 years of age. A month later, on December 18, he played his first One Day International (ODI). Over the course of his legendary career, he featured in 664 international matches, scoring an astonishing 34,357 runs at an average of 48.52—a record that still stands as the highest run tally in international cricket. His 100 international centuries and 164 half-centuries remain untouched milestones.
Tendulkar also made history by becoming the first player to score a double century in ODI cricket. He is the only cricketer to have played 200 Test matches, where he accumulated 15,921 runs at an average of 53.78, including 51 centuries and 68 fifties. In ODIs, he scored 18,426 runs at an average of 44.83, which includes 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries.
A pivotal figure in India’s 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup victory, Tendulkar finally realized his dream of lifting the prestigious trophy, after making his World Cup debut in 1992.
From 2008 to 2013, Tendulkar also represented the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), playing a key role in leading the team to its maiden championship title in 2013.
