Mayurakshi Chanda from Dinhata, Cooch Behar, West Bengal, has made her district proud by securing a prestigious role at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Her incredible journey from agricultural science to space research is inspiring thousands across the country.

Educational Background Rooted in Agriculture

Mayurakshi completed her Higher Secondary education in 2014 from Dinhata Girls High School. She pursued her graduation in Agriculture at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, followed by a Master’s degree (MSc) in Soil Science from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. Her academic excellence and passion for research have always set her apart.

Passion for Space Beyond the Fields

Though she studied agriculture, Mayurakshi always had a deep curiosity about the universe and space science. In January this year, she applied for a position at ISRO. After clearing the written examination, she was selected among 20 candidates across India for the final interview round.

Her success has sparked celebration across Dinhata. Locals are comparing her rise to that of Dr. Kanak Saha, the Bhatnagar Award-winning scientist who first brought global recognition to the region. Mayurakshi is now being hailed as a worthy successor and a new inspiration for the youth.

Mayurakshi’s father, a teacher, and her mother, a nurse, have always supported her dreams. They proudly mention that she progressed mostly on her own, with little external coaching or help. Her parents give full credit for her success to her determination, discipline, and self-motivation.

Mayurakshi has been selected as a scientist at ISRO’s National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC). She aspires to contribute to India’s progress in space research by exploring unknown galaxies and celestial bodies. Her long-term goal is to help the nation reach new frontiers in astronomical science and remote sensing technology.
