US-Iran Tensions Rise Over Nuclear Program Amid Direct Talks

Trump Confirms Direct Talks with Iran

During a press conference at the Oval Office alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Donald Trump revealed that the United States has begun direct negotiations with Iran. He stated, “We are engaging in direct talks with Iran. It’s underway. A major meeting is scheduled for Saturday. We’ll see what comes out of it. I believe everyone agrees that a deal would be beneficial.”

Escalating Tensions Over Iran’s Nuclear Activities

The diplomatic tension between Washington and Tehran has increased due to Iran’s controversial nuclear program. On March 5, President Trump sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, urging for peaceful discussions while warning of potential consequences of military action. In a televised interview, Trump remarked, “I wrote him a letter, expressing my hope that we can talk. If we are forced to act militarily, the results would be devastating.”

Military Action Not Ruled Out

In an effort to bring Iran to the negotiation table, the United States has enforced even stricter sanctions. Meanwhile, warnings have been issued about potential airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, possibly by either the US or Israel. Despite the military rhetoric, both sides continue to emphasize the importance of a diplomatic solution.

Iran Responds with Skepticism

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has rejected direct negotiations with the US on nuclear matters. Speaking during a televised cabinet meeting, he said, “We are not afraid of negotiations. The real issue lies in broken promises. The US must prove its credibility before any talks can proceed.”
